The event was a success with a great turn-out from local organisations, despite the rail replacement bus services operating on the day.

Exhibition stands/stalls included on the day:

  • Disabled Peoples Voice Hampshire
  • Independent Lives (Direct Payments Services)
  • Carver Care
  • Bluebird Care
  • RHS Consultancy
  • Winchester Go LD
  • HealthWatch Hampshire
  • West Hampshire CCG
  • Home Instead

In the week leading up to the event we received apologies from our two speakers; Winchester CAB and the Disability Advisor at the Jobcentre, however we were lucky to have Janet Siedel from Independent Lives and Janet Chierchia from Winchester GoLD step in on short notice, for which we are extremely grateful and delivered talks alongside Madeline Close from HealthWatch Hampshire on direct payments.

Independent Lives covered their direct payments services offered; general working of the scheme and how they can provide support in the process of claiming, and administration (payroll system, advisory service operating for clients etc.). Janet Chierchia from Winchester GoLD (formerly MENCAP) talked about direct payments and the impact from the user's perspective, whilst Madeline Close from HeatlhWatch Hampshire provided information on their services offered. Their purpose is to gather feedback of how well health provision works throughout the county, both good and bad feedback. And she encouraged people to send in information so improvements, where appropriate, can be made.

The Disability Advisor at the Jobcentre did footnote her apology stating that the impact of direct payments won't be evident in Winchester until the end of 2015.

We hope to have follow-up event in 2016.

Many thanks to all who attended on the day and made our event a success!
